Working alone increases vulnerability. Regular contact schedules, personal alarms, and emergency protocols are essential for protecting isolated employees from preventable dangers.

The Risks of Working Alone
Working alone means a worker is out of visual or verbal contact with others. In these situations, even minor incidents can escalate quickly due to delayed assistance. Proper communication, planning, and emergency readiness are essential.
Key Hazards
- Medical emergencies with no one around to assist.
- Slips, trips, or falls in isolated areas.
- Exposure to hazardous substances or environments.
- Mechanical equipment or tool malfunctions.
- Aggressive encounters or theft in remote work zones.
Best Practices
- Ensure a risk assessment has been completed before working alone.
- Have a communication plan—use radios, cell phones, or check-in apps.
- Set up regular check-in intervals with a supervisor or designated contact.
- Know the location of first aid kits and emergency exits.
- Only perform tasks you are trained and authorized to complete alone.
At GamaSafety, working alone does not mean working without support. With the right procedures and communication, every lone worker stays connected and protected.

Lone workers face unique challenges. This GamaSafety session reinforces the importance of proactive safety planning, communication, and emergency readiness when working alone.
