What Are Struck-By Incidents?
Struck-by incidents occur when a worker is hit by a moving object—such as tools, vehicles, equipment, or debris. These events are one of the leading causes of injury and death on construction sites and can happen in a split second without warning.
Examples of Struck-By Hazards
- Falling tools or materials from heights.
- Being hit by moving vehicles or equipment (e.g., forklifts, excavators).
- Flying particles from grinding, cutting, or power tools.
- Unsecured loads during rigging or lifting operations.
- Swinging or collapsing structures like crane arms or scaffold pieces.
How to Prevent Struck-By Incidents
- Wear appropriate PPE, including hard hats, high-vis vests, and safety eyewear.
- Secure all tools and materials when working at heights.
- Keep clear of operating machinery and marked exclusion zones.
- Inspect rigging and lifting equipment before use.
- Use spotters when backing or maneuvering equipment.
- Follow signage, barricades, and site traffic plans.
At GamaSafety, we remind every worker that struck-by risks are real—and preventable. Stay alert, wear the right gear, and never assume equipment operators can see you.
