Smoking Policies and Safety
Smoking in the workplace is regulated not only for health reasons, but also for fire prevention and workplace safety. Whether it involves tobacco, e-cigarettes, or cannabis, smoking must be controlled to protect all personnel and meet legal requirements.
Key Risks of Workplace Smoking
- Fire hazards near flammable or combustible materials.
- Secondhand smoke exposure to coworkers and the public.
- Violation of company policy or local bylaws.
- Workplace distractions or unauthorized breaks.
Designated Smoking Areas
- Smoking is only permitted in approved, clearly marked outdoor areas.
- Smoking must be at least 6 meters away from doors, windows, or air intakes.
- Proper disposal containers (metal cans with sand) must be provided and used.
- All workers must adhere to the designated times and locations for smoke breaks.
Company Policy and Enforcement
- Smoking policies are clearly stated in onboarding and posted onsite.
- Violations may result in progressive discipline or removal from site.
- Supervisors are responsible for monitoring compliance.
- Workers are encouraged to report unsafe or unauthorized smoking.
At GamaSafety, smoking in the workplace is treated as a safety issue—not just a health one. Following the rules keeps everyone safe, respectful, and compliant with legal standards.
