Operating Skid Steers Safely by Understanding
Stability Limits, Blind Spots, and Best Practices.
Skid steers are powerful but hazardous when misused. Workers must maintain stability, use seat belts, and stay aware of surrounding people and obstacles at all times.

Understanding Skid Steer Risks
Skid steers are versatile and powerful machines, but improper use can lead to serious injuries or fatalities. Operators must be trained and aware of all hazards, including rollover risks, pinch points, and restricted visibility.
Common Hazards
- Rollover or tip-over when working on slopes or uneven ground.
- Crushing injuries when entering/exiting improperly.
- Contact with moving parts or attachments.
- Blind spots leading to collisions with people or structures.
Safe Operation Tips
- Always use the seatbelt and lower the safety bar before operating.
- Keep the bucket low when moving to improve stability.
- Never exceed rated load capacity or attempt to lift uneven loads.
- Operate at slow, controlled speeds—especially in congested areas.
- Keep bystanders at a safe distance at all times.
Inspection & Maintenance
- Check tires/tracks, fluid levels, and safety devices daily.
- Inspect for leaks, damaged hoses, or worn components.
- Ensure safety interlocks and backup alarms function properly.
- Report and tag out defective equipment immediately.
At GamaSafety, we stress that proper training, awareness, and maintenance are key to safe skid steer operation. Take every precaution—your safety depends on it.
