The Risk of Hearing Loss

Loud noise is one of the most common and preventable workplace hazards. Damage to hearing is usually permanent and occurs gradually. Once hearing is lost, it cannot be recovered making prevention critical.

Sources of Harmful Noise

  • Power tools such as grinders, saws, and jackhammers.
  • Heavy equipment like bulldozers, loaders, and forklifts.
  • Compressed air use, impact tools, or demolition activities.
  • Continuous exposure to noise above 85 decibels (dB).

Types of Hearing Protection

  • Earplugs: Disposable or reusable, fit inside the ear canal.
  • Earmuffs: Cover the entire ear and seal out external noise.
  • Custom-fit devices: Molded specifically for the user’s ear.
  • Noise-canceling headsets: Used in specific high-noise areas.

Best Practices

  • Always wear hearing protection in designated areas.
  • Inspect and replace damaged hearing devices regularly.
  • Train workers on how to properly insert or wear hearing PPE.
  • Encourage breaks from noisy environments whenever possible.

At GamaSafety, protecting hearing is a priority. A few seconds of protection can prevent a lifetime of loss. Be smart protect your ears before the damage is done.
