Why Fire Extinguishers Matter

Fire extinguishers are a critical first response tool for small, contained fires. Knowing how to identify, access, and use them properly can prevent property damage, serious injuries, and save lives.

Types of Fire Extinguishers

  • Class A: Ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, fabric.
  • Class B: Flammable liquids like gasoline, oil, grease.
  • Class C: Electrical fires (equipment, wiring).
  • Class D: Combustible metals (magnesium, titanium).
  • Class K: Kitchen fires (cooking oils, fats).

How to Use a Fire Extinguisher (PASS)

  • Pull the pin to unlock the extinguisher.
  • Aim low at the base of the fire.
  • Squeeze the handle to release the agent.
  • Sweep the nozzle from side to side.

Best Practices and Reminders

  • Always keep a clear exit route behind you when using a fire extinguisher.
  • Only attempt to extinguish small, contained fires.
  • Report discharged or damaged extinguishers immediately.
  • Inspect extinguishers monthly for pressure and accessibility.

At GamaSafety, all team members must know where fire extinguishers are located, what type is appropriate for each hazard, and how to act quickly in an emergency.
