Understanding Electrical Hazards

Electricity is a powerful and invisible hazard present on nearly every worksite. Even low-voltage systems can cause severe injury or death if not handled properly. Awareness, proper equipment, and safe practices are essential for working around electricity.

Common Electrical Risks

  • Contact with exposed or damaged wires.
  • Improper use of extension cords or power tools.
  • Working near energized panels or live circuits.
  • Water near electrical equipment or outlets.
  • Unauthorized repairs or tampering with wiring.

Safe Work Practices

  • Inspect all cords, plugs, and outlets before use.
  • Keep electrical devices dry and away from water sources.
  • Use GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters) on outdoor or damp work sites.
  • Do not overload circuits or use damaged cords.
  • De-energize and lockout/tagout circuits before work begins.

Personal Protection and Training

  • Wear rubber-insulated gloves and protective footwear when required.
  • Only qualified personnel should work on electrical systems.
  • Maintain proper clearances around energized panels.
  • Immediately report sparks, shocks, or damaged equipment to your supervisor.

At GamaSafety, we remind workers that there are no second chances with electricity. Respect every circuit, follow procedures, and never take shortcuts with power.
