Understanding Caught-In/Between Hazards
Caught-in/between incidents happen when a person is trapped, pinched, or crushed between objects. These incidents are among OSHA’s "Fatal Four" and can occur quickly and with devastating results, especially when working around heavy equipment or unstable loads.
Examples of Caught-In/Between Hazards
- Getting caught in moving machinery or rotating equipment.
- Being pinned between a truck and loading dock.
- Collapse of trenches, walls, or structures.
- Fingers or limbs pulled into tools or equipment.
- Crushed between shifting materials or stacked items.
Prevention Techniques
- Use proper machine guards and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Never work under suspended or unstable loads.
- Stay clear of heavy equipment in operation or reverse.
- Use trench boxes and shoring in excavations deeper than 4 feet.
- Inspect equipment and surroundings before starting tasks.
At GamaSafety, we focus on awareness, preparation, and protection to avoid being caught between life-threatening hazards. One second of distraction can cost everything stay clear, stay alert.
