What is Carbon Monoxide?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be deadly when inhaled. It is produced by fuel-burning equipment such as generators, heaters, engines, and forklifts, especially in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas.

Symptoms of CO Exposure

  • Headache, dizziness, and nausea.
  • Fatigue, confusion, and chest pain.
  • Loss of consciousness in severe cases.
  • Symptoms may be mistaken for flu or fatigue—this makes CO especially dangerous.

Common Sources on Worksites

  • Gas-powered tools or equipment in enclosed spaces.
  • Generators used indoors or near building air intakes.
  • Forklifts, compressors, or vehicles running inside buildings.
  • Blocked exhaust vents or inadequate ventilation systems.

Prevention and Protection

  • Never use fuel-burning equipment indoors without proper ventilation.
  • Install and regularly test carbon monoxide detectors in work areas.
  • Turn off engines when not in use and maintain equipment properly.
  • Report symptoms immediately and seek fresh air if exposure is suspected.

At GamaSafety, we educate and protect our teams against invisible threats like carbon monoxide. Awareness and early detection save lives. Always work smart—and breathe safe.
