Working at Heights with Aerial Lifts

Boom lifts and aerial lifts provide access to high or difficult-to-reach areas, but they also introduce risks like falls, tipping, and electrical contact. Proper training and safety checks are essential before every lift operation.

Key Hazards

  • Falls from platforms due to lack of harness or sudden movement.
  • Tip-overs caused by uneven ground or exceeding weight limits.
  • Crushing between the lift and structures or other equipment.
  • Contact with overhead power lines or energized equipment.

Safe Operating Guidelines

  • Inspect the lift, controls, and emergency systems before use.
  • Wear a full body harness with a lanyard attached to the anchor point.
  • Use the lift only on stable, level ground with outriggers extended if required.
  • Keep both feet on the platform floor never climb rails.
  • Maintain safe distance from overhead hazards.

Additional Safety Practices

  • Do not operate in high winds or severe weather.
  • Never exceed the lift’s load capacity or alter its components.
  • Always follow site-specific lift procedures and signage.
  • Use a spotter when visibility is limited or near obstacles.

At GamaSafety, every lift begins with a safety plan. Staying alert, using PPE, and following correct procedures protects workers and ensures tasks at height are done safely and efficiently.
