Improper loading can cause shifting, falling, and crushing hazards. Workers should use clear signals, secure loads properly, and follow proven procedures during each operation.

The Importance of Proper Loading
Improper loading and unloading of equipment can lead to crushed limbs, equipment damage, and fatalities. These tasks require awareness, communication, and proper technique to ensure the safety of workers and stability of the load.
Common Hazards
- Equipment rolling off ramps or trailers.
- Pinch points or entrapment between machines and trailers.
- Struck-by incidents from shifting or unsecured loads.
- Slippery or uneven loading surfaces.
Safe Loading Practices
- Use level ground whenever possible for loading/unloading.
- Inspect ramps and tie-downs before each use.
- Ensure brakes are set and wheels chocked on transport vehicles.
- Use a spotter when visibility is limited or tight maneuvers are needed.
Unloading Protocols
- Wait until all tie-downs are removed before operating equipment.
- Descend ramps slowly and in control—never at an angle.
- Confirm work area is clear of workers or obstructions.
- Follow proper startup/shutdown procedures before moving equipment.
At GamaSafety, we emphasize that loading and unloading are high-risk tasks. Take your time, follow the checklist, and protect yourself and your crew with every move.
